New Thermostats are Good

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Installed my new thermostat today.  The old thermostat was present ( wasn’t sure it would be!) and was a 180 degree thermostat (AC Delco), but it must have been stuck.  With the new 180 degree Stant, the temperature is a rock steady 180 degrees, never waivering more than about 2 degrees one way or the [...]

Quick Update

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I got the MS Relay Board and interconnect cable for Christmas.  Both are pieces that I could have either done without or built myself (either from scratch or from a kit), but having them will make this installation MUCH easier.  The interconnect cable is a straight connection between the ECU and the Relay Board, and [...]

Christmas Eve Fun

Monday, December 24th, 2007

I’m still not making major progress, but some baby steps.  On the plus side, the car is all together and drivable.  I have a fondness for projects that don’t require a lot of down time… because I have a fondness for driving my Spitfire! So, today I met up with Carter Shore over in Tampa [...]

ECU Mods

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

I’ve been slacking on this project lately.  Christmas shopping and other mundane activities have been taking up too much of my time.  I guess it’s the season. I did get some parts in last week.  I need a coolant temp sensor separate from the one that operates the gauge.  So, I looked around and found [...]

Winter in Florida

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Not much happening with the project right now.  I’ve got some parts on order, and some other parts almost on order, and some other parts on my Christmas wish list.  And still more parts that I’m still researching.  Carter Shore (see the comments on some of these posts) and I are working on “the plan” [...]

Plan B

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

The decision has been made.  No more Honda intake.  Honda parts are just too damned expensive.  Here’s a breakdown of what it was going to cost me: Manifold/Fuel Rail/Injectors – $45 Manifold Gasket – $35 Throttle Body/Throttle Position Sensor - $60 Manifold adapter – $200 (the adapter requires flanges on both ends) Fuel injector harness – [...]

Well, at least I got to drive the car today.

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Finally found some motivation today, made a bracket for the fuse box and got busy!  I’m still not ready to “finalize” my wiring harness.  I’m leaning toward just using zip ties to bind it together and wrap it with some convoluted split loom rather than taping it all up to the point that I can’t [...]

A trip to the Salvage Yard

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Still haven’t made that bracket and installed that new fuse box yet.  Maybe I’ll get to it before this weekend?  Or not… Meanwhile, I’ve been thinking about things like the throttle body and fuel injector wiring I need for my intake, what to use for a fuel pump, how to do the ignition system, and all of [...]

New Fuse Box

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

No progress on the FI project today.  Got some discussion going on various aspects of the project on some of the forums I’m on, that’s about it.  But, I did get a little work done on my new fuse box. I mentioned before that the Spitfire electrical system sucks, and I rewired it. <insert Tim [...]

How hot is it under that bonnet?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

So, after I put the carb manifold back on the car today, I decided to break out the temperature probe for my meter and see what kind of temperatures are going on near that exhaust header.  All readings were taken with the bonnet closed, and peak free-air temp was taken with the fan unplugged with [...]
